Saint Paulinus of Trier

Saint · Common of Martyrs · Phrygia (in modern Turkey) · d. c. 358

At Trier in Belgic Gaul, Saint Paulinus, bishop and martyr, who in the time of the Arian persecution was a true herald of the truth, and at the Synod of Arles, convened by the Arian emperor Constantius, could be induced neither by threats nor by flatteries to condemn Saint Athanasius or to turn aside from the orthodox faith. For this reason he was banished into Phrygia, where, after five years, he completed his martyrdom in exile.
