Blessed Marcel Gaucher Labigne de Reignefort and Peter Joseph Le Groing de La Romagère, Martyrs of Rochefort

Blessed · Common of Martyrs · Rochefort, France · d. 1794

On the sea off the coast of Rochefort, confined in the squalor of a ship lying at anchor, Blessed Marcel Gaucher Labigne de Reignefort, of the Society of Missionaries, and Peter Joseph Le Groing de La Romagère, priests and martyrs, who—the former in the region of Limoges, the latter in that of Bourges—during the upheaval of the French Revolution were given over to inhuman imprisonment out of hatred for religion, and, worn out by starvation and disease, fell asleep in death.
