In the monastery of Annesi by the river Iris in Pontus, Saint Macrina, virgin, sister of Saints Basil the Great, Gregory of Nyssa, and Peter of Sebaste, who, learned in the Sacred Scriptures, gave herself to the solitary life, a wondrous example of longing for God and of withdrawal from the vanity of the world.
