Saint Lucy Wang Cheng and Companions, Martyrs of China

In the village of Wanglajia near Dongguang in the province of Hebei in China, the holy martyrs Lucy Wang Cheng, Mary Fan Kun, Mary Qi Yu, and Mary Zheng Xu, who, girls reared in the orphanage, in the persecution by the followers of the “Yihetuan” (the Boxers), joining hands together, perished by the sword as joyfully as if advancing to their wedding.

At Zieshuiwang near the city of Shenxian in the same province, Saint Mary Du Zhaozhi, martyr, the mother of a priest, who, having returned from flight and refusing to betray the faith of Christ, with steadfast spirit bent her neck to the enemies’ axe.
