At Jerusalem, the commemoration of Saints Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus, who received the body of Jesus taken down from the cross, wrapped it in a shroud, and laid it in the tomb. Joseph, a noble councillor and a disciple of the Lord, was awaiting the kingdom of God; Nicodemus, for his part, a Pharisee and a ruler of the Jews, had come to Jesus by night, questioning him about his mission, and before the chief priests and the Pharisees, who wished to seize Jesus, he defended his cause.
