Saint Gregory Grassi, Francis Fogolla, and Companions, Martyrs of Taiyuan

In the city of Taiyuan in the province of Shanxi, likewise in China, the passion of Saints Gregory Grassi and Francis Fogolla, bishops of the Order of Friars Minor, and twenty-four companions, martyrs, who in the persecution by the “Yihetuan” (Boxer) sect were slain out of hatred for the Christian name.

Their names are:

  • Saints Elias Facchini and Theodoric Balat, priests, and Andrew Bauer, religious, of the Order of Friars Minor;
  • Mary Hermina of Jesus (Irma) Grivot, Mary of Peace (Marie Anne) Giuliani, Mary Clare (Clelia) Nanetti, Mary of Saint Natalia (Jeanne Marie) Kerguin, Mary of Saint Just (Anne Françoise) Moreau, Mary Adolfine (Anna Catharina) Dierk, and Mary Amandina (Pauline) Jeuris, religious of the Institute of the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary;
  • and also John Zhang Huan, Patrick Dong Bodi, Philip Zhang Zhihe, John Zhang Jingguang, John Wang Rui, Thomas Shen Jihe, Simon Chen Ximan, Peter Wu Anpeng, Francis Zhang Rong, Matthias Feng De, James Yan Guodong, Peter Zhang Banniu, James Zhao Quanxin, and Peter Wang Erman.
