Blessed Claude Richard, Priest and Martyr

On a squalid prison ship anchored in the open sea before Rochefort in France, Blessed Claude Richard, priest of the Order of Saint Benedict and martyr, who, in the time of the French Revolution, was driven from his monastery for his priesthood and cast into a ship of bondage; while he tended his sick fellow captives, he himself was seized by the contagion and died.
