Saint Ammon and Companions, Martyrs of Alexandria

Saint · Common of Martyrs · Alexandria, Egypt

At Alexandria in Egypt, the holy martyrs Ammon, Zeno, Ptolemy, and Ingenuus, soldiers, together with Theophilus, an old man, who, standing by the tribunal when a certain Christian set among the torments began to waver and was almost inclining to deny the faith, strove to strengthen him by their looks, their eyes, and their gestures. And when on this account the outcry of the whole people surged against them, they burst into the midst and bore witness that they too were Christians; by their victory Christ, who had given them such constancy of soul, triumphed most gloriously.
