Saint Alban

Saint · Common of Martyrs · St Albans (Verulamium), England, United Kingdom

At Verulamium in Britain, Saint Alban, martyr, who, as it is told, though not yet baptized, exchanged garments and gave himself up in place of a cleric whom he had received as a guest in his house and by whom he had been instructed in the precepts of the Christian faith; for which reason, after scourging and bitter torments, he was beheaded.
