The commemoration of Saints Zechariah and Elizabeth, parents of blessed John the Baptist, the Precursor of the Lord. Elizabeth, when she had received into her house her kinswoman Mary, being filled with the Holy Spirit, greeted the mother of the Lord as blessed among women. Zechariah, for his part, a priest filled with the prophetic spirit, when his son was born, praised God the Redeemer and proclaimed the coming advent of Christ, the dawn from on high.
