Saint Maurice and Companions, Martyrs of Agaunum

At Agaunum in the canton of Valais among the Helvetii, in present-day Switzerland, the holy martyrs Maurice, Exuperius, and Candidus, soldiers, who, as Saint Eucherius of Lyon related, together with their companions of the same Theban Legion and Victor the veteran, were slain for Christ under the emperor Maximian, and by their glorious passion gave luster to the Church.
