Saint John Calybites

At Constantinople, Saint John Calybites, who, as is related, lived for a time in a secluded part of his father’s house, and afterwards in a «kalyba», that is, a hut, wholly given over to contemplation and hidden from the sight of his own parents; by whom, only after his death, he was recognized from the golden book of the Gospels which they had given to their son.

Constantinópoli, sancti Ioánnis Calybíte, qui, ut fertur, aliquámdiu in patérnze domus recéssu, dein in «kal$ba», scilicet tugürio, habitávit, totus contemplatióni déditus et e conspéctu ipsórum paréntum Abiictis: a quibus post mortem tantum ágnitus est ex Evangeliórum códice áureo, quem filio déderant.
