The Memorial of Saint Dominic, priest, who, a canon of Osma, became a humble minister of preaching in the regions troubled by the Albigensian heresy. He lived in the lowliness of voluntary poverty, always speaking with God or of God, and, eager for a new way of spreading the faith, founded the Order of Preachers, so that the apostolic form of living might be renewed in the Church, charging his brethren to serve their neighbors by prayer, study, and the ministry of the word. His death occurred at Bologna on the sixth day of August.
