At Passignano in Tuscany, Saint John Gualbert, abbot, who, a Florentine soldier, spared his brother’s murderer for the love of Christ, then received the monastic habit; but, eager to lead a stricter life, he laid the foundations of a new monastic family at Vallombrosa.
